SHIZUKA HARIU

Dr Shizuka Hariu is an acclaimed scenographer whose interdisciplinary approach merges the worlds of scenography and architecture in captivating design experiences.


Her portfolio boasts an impressive array of projects, including the AI Android opera Super Angels and George Benjamin's Written on Skin, Sacred Monsters for Akram Khan and Sylvie Guillem, as well as Bells for Peace with Yoko Ono at the Manchester International Festival and Dystopian Dream at Sadler's Wells. Notable collaborations span the UK, Europe, and Japan, with upcoming ventures including a debut set design for the Royal Ballet in London and a theatrical adaptation of Dekalog for the New National Theatre Tokyo.
Shizuka honed her craft while studying Engineering Architecture at the Tokyo University of Science before pursuing further education in MA Scenography at Central Saint Martins in London.


Her accolades include two Bronze medals from the World Stage Design, the D&AD Design Award, the German Design Award, and the Japan Kukan (Space) Award, among others.


As a respected figure in the design community, Shizuka is a guest lecturer at prestigious institutions such as the University of London and the V&A Museum, participates in international design competitions, and serves on juries. Alongside her role as co-director at SHSH Architecture + Scenography, Shizuka continues to push the boundaries of design innovation, captivating audiences worldwide with her visionary creations.
